There are a multitude of options. For example, they can move into a place together where 50/50 is affordable to both of them. They could also make an equitable split if he insists that she moves in, but only if he is the one insisting.

If you invite someone to live with you and you make X times more money, and live a much more expensive lifestyle, you should consider if they are able to pay what you’re paying… sorry not sorry but 50/50 if I make 3 times more than her is crazy.

I hate these kind of people. No thanks for 50/50. Ill take a small apartment I can afford over living barely paycheck to paycheck to live a life with someone

my ex told me when we I moved in his rent apartment that I don't need to pay rent because he would pay it anyway even if I wouldn't live with him

This is only valid if you’re married. You don’t have an entitlement to someone’s resources when you’re simply dating them or even living with them. 50-50 is the very definition of fairness.

There is a middle ground where she can contribute to the household expenses that both sides can agree to. If one side makes 4 to 5x more money than the other, why would you want to make your GF cash poor?

I’m glad she left, demanding someone live beyond their economic means if they want to stay with you is a clear sign they don’t love you.

Actually, the argument that that person is the one who chose to live there is interesting to consider. I don’t hear that often as part of these… also offering to split it and move somewhere cheaper it’s quite the reasonable suggestion.

add up house hold income, divide by each person's contribution of the whole, that percentage represents your fair share to house hold expenses. it's not hard and you're not subsidizing anyone on either side.
