Crane's fight with his mind Kyle Crane’s story begins in 2015, when he is sent by the GRE into the quarantined city of Harran in Dying Light. His mission is to recover a stolen file from Kadir “Rais” Suleiman. However, after being infected and joining the survivors in the Tower, Crane slowly begins to question the GRE and his original mission. As he becomes closer to the survivors, Crane chooses to help them instead of simply following his orders. He fights Rais and eventually confronts the GRE’s plans for Harran, becoming one of the most important figures in the fight for the city. In 2016, Dying Light: The Following takes Crane to the Countryside of Harran, where he searches for a possible cure to the Harran Virus. His investigation leads him to the Children of the Sun and the mysterious Mother. Crane eventually discovers that the supposed cure comes with a terrible price. After taking the Mother’s serum, Crane loses control of his infection and transforms into a sentient Volatile. His fate is left uncertain as he disappears from Harran. Years later, in 2025, Kyle Crane returns in Dying Light: The Beast. After surviving Harran, Crane is captured by the Baron and subjected to 13 years of experiments and torture. The experiments alter his body with different strains of the infection, giving him extraordinary abilities while leaving him struggling to control the beast within.
