2:32am. Baby asleep on my chest because apparently the bassinet is lava. My phone is at 14%. I’m thirsty. My arm has been numb for at least 20 minutes but moving it feels way too risky. 😂 The whole house is quiet. And somehow that was always the part that got me. Not even the exhaustion. The feeling that everyone else in the world was sleeping while I was sitting there alone, counting the hours until morning. I knew logically that there had to be thousands of other moms awake too. Feeding. Pumping. Rocking. Walking circles around their bedroom. Googling completely unhinged things like “can newborn tell if mom is stressed” at 3am. But you never really SEE them. Then I found this app where moms can basically turn on a little light when they’re awake. I opened the map one night and there were lights everywhere. Indiana. California. Texas. Canada. England. Just moms awake with their babies. And I swear it changed the feeling of those nights a little. Sometimes you can send someone a hug. Sometimes someone sends one back. No conversation required. No pretending you’re doing great. It’s basically just another person somewhere saying: “I’m awake too.” And maybe that sounds like such a small thing. But postpartum has made me realize how much small things matter. Someone bringing you coffee. A friend texting at the exact right moment. Your baby finally burping after you’ve tried everything. Seeing another mom’s little light glowing on a map at 3:07am when you were starting to feel like the only person left awake on earth. Motherhood can be unbelievably lonely even when you’re almost never physically alone. There is constantly someone touching you. Someone needing you. Someone crying for you. And yet somehow you can still feel completely invisible. So now when I’m trapped under a sleeping baby in the middle of the night, I open the map. And there they are. Little lights everywhere. 💛 Other moms feeding babies. Other moms rocking babies. Other moms wondering when they’ll sleep again. Other moms just trying to make it to morning. I don’t know any of them. But somehow knowing they’re there helps. Because maybe the middle of the night isn’t quite as lonely when you can actually see all the other moms awake with you. And if you’re reading this during a 2am feed right now… there are a lot more of us awake than it feels like. 🤍 #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
