Someone on TT told me their therapist said to them “im not sure why youre not getting better but its not my fault.” And i’m sorry for that person.. There are doctors, hair dressers, grocery store clerks etc that arent performing their jobs at their best. It is everywhere. This isnt an excuse but the reality is… there are bad therapists. But if you experienced a bad one remember that DOES NOT mean they are all like that. 🚩I would never say.. you “SHOULD” do this because its not my position to use my power to tell someone what to do. This also could result in the client feeling like theyve disapointed you if they dont do what you told them they “should” 🚩therapists shouldnt make false promises of “fixing” anything or implying the client has something to fix or that the therapist is the person to fix it. This is all bad. 🚩saying “this worked for my other clients” could ~other~the client it could imply that something is different or wrong with them if its not working for them like it did your “other clients” Same applies for “this worked for me.” Its also not about you (the therapist) in session. Your client doesnt need to know what worked for you? a much better approach is posing the concept… “what if we tried talking to this part of you?” How would that intervention feel for you??” “We could try talking it out and then do a small breathing exercise?” Allow them the space to explore if it would work or if they want to try it without adding pressure to them. Especially in a comparison type scenario with other clients. Clients might pretend it works or that they want to talk about or try your intervention just to appease the therapist. This is murky icky waters and you lose the opportunity to explore with the client their feelinge. When i moved to WA in May 2021 i cycled through a few therapists to land on one i continued to work with. THAT IS NORMAL! Keep trying… one bad egg doesnt mean you cant get the helo you need! #therapy #MentalHealth
