@truelifestorywithrikeh: I have been married to my husband for 8 years, and we have three children together. I honestly don't know what to do anymore, so I decided to tell my story here and ask for advice. My husband is a banker. He has always been very serious about his career, and I have always supported him. I have never competed with him or made him feel like I was trying to be ahead of him. I also work for a multinational company, and recently, something happened that I never expected. I got promoted. Not just an ordinary promotion. I was offered a much bigger position in one of our company's branches abroad, and they want me to relocate with my family if I accept. The salary is almost three times what I currently earn. They will provide accommodation, and there are also benefits for my children. When I received the offer, I was so excited. I immediately started imagining what our lives could look like. I thought about our three children. Better schools. A better home. Less financial pressure. More opportunities for all of us. I was so excited to tell my husband. I honestly thought he would be happy for me. Instead, after I told him, he simply said I should turn it down. I actually laughed because I thought he was joking. I asked him why. He told me he doesn't want me to accept it. I tried explaining that this isn't about who is higher or who earns more. It's about our family. I told him this opportunity could completely change the lives of all five of us. He still refused. I even suggested that we relocate together and he could look for a banking job there. I told him I wasn't trying to leave him behind or abandon our family. He said he doesn't want to start over in another country just because of my career. Now I'm seriously confused. After 8 years of marriage and three children, I have never put my career before my family. I don't want my marriage to suffer. But this is an opportunity I may never get again. The company only selected three employees for this opportunity, and I am one of them. Honestly, I feel like I deserve this promotion because I have worked very hard for it. I have talked to my husband calmly. I have explained everything to him in the best way I know how, but he is still the only problem I am facing right now. And there is something else that makes this even more difficult. In our home, I currently handle about 70% of the responsibilities while my husband handles 30%. I don't complain about it because I know he is not earning much at the moment, and I have always tried to support him. So why does it feel like my success has suddenly become a problem? I'm genuinely asking both women and men here. 🙏 If your wife got a career opportunity that would make her earn more than you and hold a higher position than you, would you support her or ask her to turn it down? And if you were in my shoes, would you choose your marriage or accept the opportunity? Because honestly, I'm scared that if I turn this down for my husband today, I might wake up years from now and regret it. Please, what would you do if you were me? 😔

I did get a life changing offer and my husband begged me not to take it, he actually cried. So I turned it down. Just me getting the offer changed our relationship and we were never the same after that and ended up divorcing. I never got an opportunity like that again. Don’t close the door on your opportunities, no man is worth it if he asks you or tells you to give up something you really wanted to take.

My sister, take the offer. Don't look back. If it was him, he would have accepted the offer even before talking to you. Take your kids and leave, this is a big opportunity. You don't want to regret this. Don't even allow a meeting from both families, just pack and go. Good luck ❤️

As a man, I’m telling you: take the job. Marriage is a partnership, and when one person gets an opportunity to better the family’s life, the other should support them; not hold them back. My wife and I both work in healthcare, and if she got an opportunity that would improve our lives and our kids’ future, I’d pack our things and go with her without hesitation. I’m sure she’d do the same for me. If he truly loves and values you, he’ll support your future. Go for it, and I genuinely hope it works out for you.

You do you. If my wife had that opportunity I would go with and find another job. But, I would always stay by her side. I never left to follow my dreams, I adapted for her. I chose to be with her starting in 1986, married 1988. We raised 5 kids and now have 11 grandkids. My wife won't get on a plain or train, so I've never been on a vacation. But, I chose her for a reason. Now together for 40yrs, my wife, my life, my love.

Yes take the offer. He can come if he wants or stay where he is. Tell him he will have partial custody of the kids so he better figure that part out. If he is still adamant, divorce him.

I had a chance to take a job in Switzerland . And then listened to how I would be throwing my marriage away. How my son would grow up motherless. How they needed me and would miss me. i let it slip away. I regret it every day . All they really wanted was their doormat and free bank. Sweetheart, there are international couples all over the world. And children that travel internationally between parents. I regret it every day.

TAKE THAT PROMOTION AND DON’T LOOK BACK. Give yourself and your kids the opportunity & future you can envision…because you ARE worth it, and if your husband doesn’t understand that, he doesn’t deserve you. Besides all of that, I guarantee you that if you turn it down and stay, you WILL eventually resent him and the marriage will suffer anyway.

I’d take the job and take the kids. He can visit if he wants. But you’ve done all the right things. If it was him, he’d expect you to go, no questions asked.

I had a boss who worked hard to get where he was. His wife was offered a huge promotion and a move to London from California. He went with her and found fulfilling work. He never regretted it. You go girl!

I raised my eyebrow when I read the part about your husband wanting you to turn your offer down. I raised it even more when you said that you contribute 70% and him only 30%. Take that once in a lifetime opportunity. You said it yourself, you and your children’s lives will greatly improve if you were to take this offer. Marriage is a partnership. It doesn’t sound like you aren’t in one. I hope you take that job offer.

Do not make yourself smaller for anyone including and especially a man. You earned this promotion and you would be crazy to turn it down, if he can't support you then he is breaking his vows to honor and hold and support you take your children abroad and live your best life

If his contribution is 30% n 70% is yours then you deserve to make that decision .I hve a feeling he doesn't see the big picture such as early retirement , better future for the kids , big savings , n adventure 🙏

It's obvious that your husband ego is hurt, he's jealous, can't stand the thought you may be smarter 😳 If he can't see your promotion is good for the whole family, tell him you love him❓️and say good bye. Accept the promotion and never look back.

I got married when I was 19 and became a mom when I was 22. He was in the military and his career always came first, so I sacrificed having one for him and our kids. When I was 30 I told him I wanted to get a job. He told me I already had one (taking care of the kids). I was financially dependent on him. There were many times I wanted to leave, but feared I would lose the kids because I wasn’t employed. He died four years ago and did not have life insurance. I was left living in a shitty rental that we both hated, and with bills that were in both of our names to pay. He assumed death benefits would be handed to me. I had to fight for them. I am now 55 years old and am just starting a career when I should be looking forward to retirement in ten years. I have three kids and two grandkids. My youngest is severely Autistic. I refuse to leave this earth and not leave anything behind for them. So, I’m working my butt off to have a better future for all of this. Do I regret making the sacrifices I did for him? Absolutely! I told myself I would NEVER financially rely on anyone else ever again. Take the job and make a better life for you and your kids. If he’s not man enough to go with you, then you’re better off without him.

My wife got a big promotion that changed our trajectory financially. I was operating a small business, doing okay...but I said, "let's go". it was halfway across country, and we had a small child. About a year after moving there, I got an opportunity to join a company that changed my personal trajectory, did well, and then we moved two more times for my job. We are now retired, don't worry about money, no college debt for kids...and we look back and wonder how it all happened.

My husband would have been more excited than i would be. we are each other's biggest fans/cheerleaders. If its what I want, then he would adapt and make me feel amazing about it. He is a good man...we are on 25 years and 21 being married. A man not excited about you accomplishments is not worth giving up a lifetime changing opportunity. If you pass on it, you will resent him later...

Sugar mama. Kidding aside, I would absolutely quit my job and support my wife. He agreed to marry you for better or worse. I think this falls under better.
