Am I the only one who, whenever I open up to someone and realize they’re genuinely interested in listening, suddenly feels like I have to make my own story sound more interesting? And then I end up downplaying it at the same time. Because somehow, I’d rather be the one to act like it’s not a big deal than tell someone something that actually matters to me, only to have them find it disappointing or boring. Maybe it’s just easier to minimize your own story than to risk someone else doing it for you. Does anyone else feel this way?
