as a SEAsian woman, I didn't know the n-word had a dark history, either. I've watched a lot of western movies and I just thought the n-word is a friendly term between bestfriends like "dude" or "girl" because I've only heard it used in that context. I do feel bad when I finally learned its meaning, but I promise you that when I discovered that word, I didn't associate it with looking down on Black people. a lot of people genuinely don't know the history behind it until you educate them.
