This is our Winnie. 🤍 Six months ago, right after he turned one, our healthy happy puppy started slowly wasting away in front of our eyes. Diarrhea. Blood in his stool. Hair loss. Weight loss. Endless accidents in the house. And no one can tell us why. At first we thought maybe it was a food sensitivity or that he got into something outside. But it kept getting worse. We started noticing bumps on his head and body that would scab and turn into areas of hair loss. The diarrhea became uncontrollable. He started losing more and more weight every single week. Since then we’ve been to 3 different vets, done countless tests, bloodwork, medications, special foods, enzymes, supplements, antibiotics, X-rays… and spent thousands of dollars trying to get answers while watching our little dog slowly become skin and bones. And somehow that’s the part I still can’t emotionally process. Because in your mind they’re still your baby. Still the dog who follows your kids around the house. Still the dog who curls up on the couch beside you every night. Still the dog who paws at the blankets so he can snuggle up under the covers next to you in bed. But then you look at them and realize how sick they really are. The photos in this post absolutely break me. His tiny frail body. The exhaustion in his eyes. The way he sleeps now because he’s so tired all the time. And through all of it, he still looks at us with complete trust. There were moments we thought we were finally figuring it out. Some medications seemed to help for a little while. The overnight accidents stopped temporarily. His stools improved slightly. We let ourselves feel hopeful again. But now we’re back in another scary place. Today another vet found that his lymph nodes are severely enlarged, and now we’re testing for fungal disease because apparently it’s common in our area and can mimic so many other illnesses in dogs. So now we wait again. And I think anyone who has deeply loved a pet understands this kind of heartbreak. You would spend anything. You would lose sleep for months. You would clean accidents at 3 a.m. without hesitation. Because they’re family. He’s our Winnie. And right now we just desperately want our happy, healthy little boy back. Please say a prayer for him tonight. 🤍 And if anyone has gone through something similar with their dog, please comment or message me. We are desperate for answers. #dachshund #sickpuppy #fungalinfection
