No one talks about Laurence Olivier what??? His name is a synonym for a great actor and the Olivier Awards are the highest theatre honors in the uk and equivalent to the Tony’s like what are we talking about?? Also he was 100% correct in what he said to Hoffman

“Could you maybe do a little internal work?” Theatre major here. And THAT’S the point of the story and why it holds water. Olivier was saying that acting is a skill that requires work and depth. If the only way you could come across as exhausted is to go out the night before to actually exhaust yourself, both classic and method schools of thought wouldn’t consider that acting. Method acting is about analyzing what makes your character tick emotionally, psychologically, etc. and then figuring out how to use your skills as an actor to portray that. It’s not the over-the-top, attention-seeking “Look! I’m actually DOING what my character would 24/7!” crap people assume it is today.

Oh my we need to make microphones way more expensive with this take. Why not use Ana Taylor Joy's take about method acting then. "If you’ll notice, women don’t method act because we have things to take care of [...] You’re going to work with hundreds of people and it is your responsibility to be good to them and to help them do their best job. If you’re too invested in being an asshole then that’s not gonna be very fun."
