Roots, Dream Lovers, and the Waiting Tide It began with royal families and ended with me on the shore, waiting for God to check his calendar. These things happen when all of existence is METAphor. I look into my ancestry and find borders moving around people. Names change. Countries change. People cross oceans, raise families, and carry stories their grandchildren must piece together. Northern Italy. Rome. Tuscany. Greece. Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales. Liverpool and St. John’s, Newfoundland. Among the crowns and coats of arms stands a dock worker. I want to know about him, too. We learn our roots. We are not defined by them. A family tree tells us where we came from. It cannot decide what we become. A crown tells me little about character. What makes someone worthy to inherit? What are they inheriting? Land? A title? Responsibility? Or an old grievance with the family silver? Some inherit the throne. Some inherit the cleaning. Sooner or later, we have to examine the estate. ⸻ Our parents were human. They made mistakes. They carried lessons from people who made mistakes before them. Sometimes they repeated them without asking whether they were worth teaching. They added a link to the chain. They didn’t break it. Growing up means we can love someone, understand their history, and still decide: I will not do that to another person. Understanding does not erase accountability. It gives us a beginning. We cannot change the past. We can learn from it and choose better. We can stop handing down the hurt as though it were an heirloom. That is where restoration begins for me. In my imagination, Noah gathers what can be carried into a new beginning. The Flood becomes a question: what deserves to survive, and what must we finally stop rebuilding? I need no blood connection to Jesus to practise compassion, courage, and responsibility. I must practise. Preferably before announcing my ascension. 😇 We are stardust memories, making something kinder of what we carry. ⸻ Which brings me, naturally, to dating. After dating in my early twenties, I decided the whole concept was nuts. Everyone looking for the love of their life. The man of their dreams. Their soul mate. How would we recognize them? Had we met them in a previous dream? Did they have references? We type our specifications into an app and hope the stranger is compatible, honest, and safe to meet. Apparently, eternity needs a profile picture. Meanwhile, a human arrives with habits, history, and opinions we forgot to include in the order. We wanted someone to share a life with. We brought a casting brief. I decided to let SERENDIPITY handle introductions. If I met someone to build a life with, lovely. Meanwhile, I had school, work, and a life to build. I could leave room for love without interviewing for it. ⸻ Of course, I kept the soundtrack. “Dream Lover.” “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” “All I Have to Do Is Dream.” “Beautiful Dreamer.” And every other song about dreaming ever written. 😍🥰😘💋♥️ I wasn’t surrendering romance because I’d stopped organizing auditions. Let the music play. Let life surprise me. As the Illuminutti might say: I left it up to God. Well. [Toe taps.] I’m still waiting to ride that wave. 😐🌊 God and I have different understandings of “any day now.” Damn. Divine Time After Time. Cyndi Lauper on the soundtrack. God on scheduling. Me checking the tide table. “Is this eternity, or am I being stood up?” 😂 ⸻ Still, I have lived while waiting. Worked. Studied. Loved. Learned. Made mistakes of my own. Had a few inherited ideas washed out from under me. The future arrives, even without the person we imagined. I can learn my roots and choose what to grow. I can hear old songs without asking someone to perform them perfectly. And should a dream lover come down the beach, I have one request: Be human. Be kind. And for God’s sake, be on time. 😇♥️ Still a Beautiful Dreamer. Just Tracy, Just ’Cause — Parsimony. Clarity. Virtue. Under One Sky — HOME FOR CONTEMPLATION. © 2026 Tracy Peressini. ⚖️🦉🪽⚜️ #Love #life #Home #peace #truth
