We had another surprise inspection at the Rancho Grande kitchen today. Same inspector as last time. I’m beginning to wonder why they keep sending this guy, but I suppose when your inspector has a neck that can reach halfway across the kitchen without moving his feet, he has certain qualifications the rest of us simply don’t have. Albert takes the job very seriously. Nothing escapes him. Countertops, sinks, shelves, baskets, corners, drawers. His nose goes up, down, over and around everything. He doesn’t just look at things either. Apparently, camel inspections require smelling absolutely everything from approximately half an inch away. I tried explaining that most health inspectors use a clipboard, but Albert prefers a more hands-on, or perhaps nose-on, approach. The good news is that after an extremely thorough investigation, we passed. The bad news is that Albert’s inspection fee appears to be payable in apples. I want to be very clear about this: the apples are NOT a bribe. They were given only after the inspection was completed. There was absolutely no discussion beforehand about how many apples might be necessary to receive a passing grade. Rancho Grande maintains the highest ethical standards when dealing with camel inspectors. So another successful inspection is in the books. The kitchen is clean, the inspector is satisfied, and several apples are now missing. I’m just hoping nobody from the county sees this video, because if they find out how thorough he is, they may put Albert on the payroll. And knowing Albert, he’ll insist on being paid by the apple. 🍎🐪 #ranchograndeojai #family #food #livingmybestlife
