Soviet posters celebrating the anniversary of the October Revolution. The posters included here span several decades, the earliest published in 1920 and latest in 1987. The first was published in 1937 to promote a film produced for the twentieth anniversary, titled ‘Lenin in October’. The banner reads: ‘All power to the Soviets!’ The second was published in 1947 and is titled ‘Long live the 30th anniversary of the Great October Revolution!’ The poster was designed by Vsevolod Medvedev and shows an idealised Moscow with the ‘Palace of the Soviets’, fireworks and the cruiser ‘Aurora’ passing through, labelled with 1917 and 1947. The third is titled ‘Time works for communism’ and was published in 1967 for the 50th anniversary. Designed by Liliya Levshunova, the poster shows a Red Army soldier from 1917 and a cosmonaut in 1967 inside a clock face, illustrating the progress made under communism. The fourth was published in 1920 for the third anniversary and shows a Red Army cavalryman destroying the dragon of counter-revolution. Unknown artist. The fifth was published in 1957 for the 40th anniversary. Designed by Viktor Ivanov and titled ‘The people and the Party are united’, the poster shows Lenin above four generations of Soviet citizens, the text on each reading: ‘In the struggle for Soviet power! / For socialism! / For our Soviet Motherland! / For communism!’ The sixth was published in 1967 and is titled ’50 Years of October - our common celebration!’ Designed by the prominent artist Irakli Toidze, it shows the united peoples of the world under the red banner. The seventh was published in 1987 and shows Lenin with text reading ‘All Power to the Soviets! Peace to the peoples! Land to the peasants! Factories to the workers!’ Designed by Oleg Maslyakov. The eighth was published in 1932 in Ukraine and is titled ‘Fifteen years of struggle for the Party's general line!’ Designed by S. (maybe Serhii) Kukurudza. I believe the symbols on the flag are those of the Young Communist International (КІМ) and Order of the Red Banner, the small text reading 'Workers of all countries, unite!' The ninth was published during the Second World War, in 1942, and is captioned: 'We swear to defend the great conquests of October!’ Designed by Nikolai Pavlov. The tenth was published at the end of the Second World War, in October 1945, and shows a soldier celebrating under a pattern of searchlights forming a ‘XXVIII’ to mark the 28th anniversary (last ‘I’ is cropped here). Designed by Mikhail Gordon and titled ‘Congratulations on a victorious October!’ #ussr #History #poster #communism
