hello ! as a philosophy nerd, I came to explain. This analogy comes from the phrase "to be is to be perceived" by the philosopher George Berkley. Basically means that the only actual proof you have of your existence is other people perceiving you. that's all! the only way we can know the tree even fell is because someone heard it fall. so the question in itself is kind of ironic, since you can't be telling me a the tree actually fell if no one heard it fall/saw it standing before it fell c:

That’s literally my favorite question. If we’re there to observe the falling tree, of course we’ll detect a sound. But if there’s nothing there to hear, record, or detect those waves, does “sound” exist? And that makes me go even deeper. Does anything exist beyond our awareness? If we think about something, it enters our awareness and therefore exists for us. But what about everything we’re not aware of? Even if we deliberately start thinking about events happening on the other side of the world, they suddenly become part of our awareness. So what exists outside of it?
