@beyond_5000: Imagine being a soldier in Vietnam… and hearing a voice on the radio telling you your girlfriend had already moved on. During the Vietnam War, North Vietnam used radio broadcasts as a form of psychological warfare. One of its most recognizable voices was Trịnh Thị Ngọ, better known to American troops as “Hanoi Hannah.” She broadcast in English, discussing American casualties, military units and the progress of the war. Some broadcasts also targeted soldiers’ fears, homesickness and relationships. Much of the information came from publicly available sources, including newspapers and military reports, combined with intelligence. Some American soldiers dismissed her broadcasts or even joked about them. But others later remembered her voice as deeply unsettling - a reminder that even far from home, the war could reach them through their radios. Sometimes, the most powerful weapon wasn't a bomb. It was a voice in the dark. #Beyond5000 #History #VietnamWar #HanoiHannah #MilitaryHistory #PsychologicalWarfare #HistoryFacts
