@mindsetvibrations: Someone once said if you spend all day at a fish market, you'll leave smelling like fish, even if you didn't touch one. But if you spend your day in a perfume shop, you'll leave smelling good, even if you didn't buy anything. Your environment always rubs off on you. Here's the part the story doesn't say out loud. Nobody standing in a fish market can still smell the fish after ten minutes. The nose adjusts. That's the actual danger. It isn't that your environment changes you, it's that it changes you underneath the level where you'd notice and push back. You don't consciously adopt the opinions of the people around you. You adopt their ceiling. What counts as normal. What's worth complaining about. How much is realistic to want. Spend enough time around people who make excuses and excuses stop sounding like excuses, they start sounding like facts. Which is why you can curate the room, the friends, the group chat, the feed, and still not move. There is one environment you never get to walk out of. The voice inside your own head has been talking to you all day, every day, for years, and it was trained by every room you have ever stood in. Changing who's around you works. It genuinely does. But you'll change your environment once, maybe twice a year. That sentence in your head repeats itself every single morning, before you're awake enough to argue with it. There's a one minute window right after you wake up, before your eyes open, when your brain is still in theta and takes whatever it hears as instruction rather than opinion. Whatever you hear in that minute is the first room you stand in all day, and you walk out of it carrying the smell. Comment ALARM and I'll send you what I use.
