@weroad_travel: It's called candle ice, and it's one of the strangest things you can see in Canada. In winter, the ice on the lakes in Banff National Park grows into parallel vertical crystals. In spring, as temperatures rise, the edges between each crystal melt first and the columns stay standing, separated from each other.
