![Avoided for years. We had to try I drove all the way across Italy for this, a wingsuit exit in the Dolomites that no one had repeated since 2022. The ledges below were too intimidating. My friends invited me to try opening it again. We knew the winds might not cooperate, but the worst thing that could happen? We'd have to hike down. 2,300 meters to the summit. We left at sunrise, watching the Dolomite spires light up behind us, rugged and reaching toward the heavens. The hike was beautiful. The nerves were real. At the summit, the winds were katabatic, coming from the wrong direction. After setting up ropes, we rappelled down, lasered the terrain, and confirmed we had an exit. But we had to wait for the wind to shift. Three and a half hours. Sitting at the top. Watching the valley. Waiting. The clouds started building. The wind was picking up. It was now or never. We geared up, stashed everything in our wingsuits, said our see you later (not goodbye!), and one at a time, we jumped. Flying through the crack, I emerged into the valley. The winds were bumpy. I spotted a hole in the wall I wanted to fly through, but the thermals coming up the mountain made it too unstable. I aborted and flew next to it instead. Great deployment. Smooth landing. High fives and hugs with the crew. We'd accomplished something beautiful. This exit is called “The King” for a reason, and we only found out why that day. What makes a great adventure isn't just the journey. It's who you travel that road with. And I was grateful for every single person on that mountain.
