Back around 2006-2007 I knew a guy in Key West, FL who was so dependent on alcohol to live that the hospital/doctor prescribed him actual alcohol that came in little prescription bottles and he was permitted to drink something like 1 every 2-4 hours as needed. He got to a point where he wasn't dying anymore and could actually work and I had the unfortunate experience of watching him walk backwards off the edge of 3rd story roof while helping someone else carry plywood. He landed flat on his back and died 2 days later in the hospital.

I was literally in the hospital 2 weeks ago and ICU and an older nurse told me they use to keep beer in the fridge for people who came in and were having bad withdrawals back in the day .
