@devonrodriguezart: This was such a surreal moment. ♥️ I got to bring my Abuela to the @Penguin Random House global headquarters in New York City so she could record her own lines for the audiobook of my memoir, Work in Progress. Growing up in the Bronx, surrounded by poverty and violence, I never imagined that one day I’d get to write my story, let alone have it published by the biggest publishing house in the world. And I definitely never imagined I’d be walking through those doors with my Abuela by my side, watching her sit behind the microphone and become part of telling our story. For people who come from where we come from, moments like this mean something different. We weren’t given a blueprint for this. I’m trying to break a generational cycle and show the next kid growing up in circumstances like mine that where you start does not have to determine where you finish. This is bigger than a book to me. It’s my family’s story, my story, and proof that your life can become something you never thought was possible.
