my favorite scene without a doubt is when Quint, Robert Shaw, tells the story about the USS Indianapolis. that scene was done in a single take. Believe it or not Spielberg considered not putting that scene in the movie. that two minute monologue by Quint explained everything you needed to know about Quint and why he does what he does.

The mayor is always carrying a cigarette but never smoking. It’s obvious he’s trying to quit. When the kid gets attacked on July 4 he lights a cigarette (in a hospital I believe) then tells them to pay Quin to kill the shark.

I always noticed the moment Hooper and Quint are comparing scars and right before the USS Indianapolis monologue, Brody is looking at his own scar around the stomach area. We never got to know the story. I always assumed it had to do with his time in NYC.
