When I was in my early twenties with a notion of entering the fashion industry with my fresh marketing degree, I phoned Neiman’s in Dallas where I lived and asked for an appointment with Stanley Marcus. His incredible secretary made me an appointment. I went. No clue what I was after really, he listened, gave advice, was not condescending, was sooo kind. I’ll never forget it. This was the late 80s. The audacity to think I could take his time, and they didn’t blink.
