"In a hanging position" could describe how Robin Williams died using a doorknob. So, agreed, this does not mean she was hanging from a branch of a tree with her feet off the ground.

I also think “hanging •position•” may indicate a partial suspension where the lower body is touching the ground (which can still cause death of course)

First impressions are 1. how horribly sad 2. thank goodness some proper police investigation is apparently happening to find the truth and deal accordingly! All deaths with even the smallest amount of suspicion about it should be investigated to ensure correct outcome is sought/achieved in my opinion, regardless of anything else.

As a paramedic I’ve worked 2 hangings from trees but most were in a house. And 1 in a barn. But yes from a tree is not as common.

Where I live, some gangs hang people from a tree after they kill them to send some kind of message. Not sure exactly what it means though
