The story begins with Lee Everett, a former university professor who has been convicted of killing a man after discovering that the man was having an affair with Lee’s wife. While being transported to prison, the world suddenly collapses as a mysterious outbreak turns the dead into walkers. After a car crash, Lee escapes and finds himself alone in a dangerous new world where society has completely broken down. While searching for safety, Lee discovers a young girl named Clementine hiding in her house. Her parents had left before the outbreak and never returned. Lee decides to protect her, becoming a father-like figure despite knowing he may not survive. Their relationship becomes the emotional centre of the entire series. Lee and Clementine eventually meet a group of survivors at a motel in Macon, including Kenny, his wife Katjaa, and their son Duck. Kenny is a hardworking man who cares deeply about his family but often clashes with others because of his strong opinions. Lee also meets Carley, Doug, Lilly, Larry, and other survivors trying to survive. The group quickly learns that surviving isn’t just about avoiding walkers — it’s about dealing with other people. Food is limited, trust is fragile, and every decision can have consequences. Lee tries to teach Clementine how to survive while also protecting her innocence. As the group struggles, tensions rise between Lilly and the others, especially her father Larry, who is aggressive and distrustful. During an escape from danger, the group discovers a farm run by Hershel Greene, but after a tragic event involving his son, they are forced to leave. Later, Lee and the survivors meet Mark, Ben, and others while trying to find a safer location. They eventually reach St. John’s Dairy, where they believe they have found a safe place with food and shelter. However, they discover the St. John family is hiding a dark secret: they are cannibals who have been murdering people to survive. Lee manages to rescue Clementine and escape, but the experience changes everyone. The group becomes more paranoid and realises that humans can sometimes be more dangerous than walkers. After more losses, the survivors leave the motel and eventually find a train. Along the journey, Lee meets Chuck, a homeless man who gives Lee advice about Clementine. Chuck warns him that Clementine needs to learn how cruel the world has become because she may have to survive without him. The group reaches Savannah hoping to find a boat and escape the mainland. However, they encounter a mysterious person called the Stranger, who communicates with Lee through a walkie-talkie. He claims to have Clementine’s best interests in mind but blames Lee for the dangers she has faced. The season builds toward one of gaming’s most emotional endings. Lee searches Savannah for Clementine after she is kidnapped by the Stranger. He discovers the Stranger blames him because his family died after Lee’s group took supplies from their car earlier in the story. Lee defeats the Stranger but is bitten by a walker during the search. Knowing he doesn’t have long left, Lee’s final goal becomes protecting Clementine and preparing her to survive without him. He teaches her important lessons: how to stay alive, how to make difficult choices, and how to keep her humanity. In the final moments, Lee tells Clementine to leave him behind before he turns.
