@postsesh.app: Baldwin IV was thirteen when they put the crown of Jerusalem on his head, and he was already dying. The signs showed up years earlier when his tutor watched him play-fighting with other boys and noticed he never flinched. The others came away with bruises and scratches. Baldwin felt nothing in his right arm. That was leprosy, and in the twelfth century that was a death sentence with a slow fuse. It would take his hands, then his face, then his sight, and every single person in that court knew it the day he was crowned. He got about eleven years and he spent all of them holding a kingdom together against the greatest general of the age. At sixteen he rode out from Ascalon with a few hundred knights against a force many times his size and shattered Saladin's army at Montgisard. Years later, half blind and unable to grip a rein, he had himself carried on a litter to the front so his men would know the king had come. He was twenty four when he died. Two years after that the kingdom he bled to keep was gone. He never got to see it fall. He just spent his entire short life refusing to let it. #kingdomofheaven #kingbaldwin #fyp
