Water softeners (borax, washing soda, Calgon) 8/10 - a must have if you have hard water. Check a hard water map if you're unsure. Vinegar 4/10 - too weak an acid to compete with real rinse products. Detergent sheets 2/10 - clean poorly, pricier than you'd think, only worth it for travel. High performance detergent 10/10 - the most important thing in your laundry room. Fabric softener 3/10 - outdated, makes clothes less absorbent. Softness is nice, but it's a tradeoff. Laundry sanitizers 9/10 - removes odor and kills microbes incredibly well. Acidic rinse products 8/10 - one of the best additions to the laundry aisle in the last decade. Enzymatic stain removers 10/10 - pretreating stains matters this much. Easy and powerful. Powdered oxygen bleach 9/10 - cheap, effective, brightens whites and lifts stains. Just a bit more process. Hydrogen peroxide 8/10 - great on blood, sweat, and whites. Dry in the shade, slightly weaker than oxygen bleach. Chlorine bleach 3/10 - has its place, but misuse causes irreversible damage. Scent beads 5/10 - no cleaning power, just fragrance.
