one time i was on a bus in london but as i went to get off but the ramp stopped working. rather than letting me know what was happening, the bus driver started driving off when i was at the doors and i almost tipped out. after yelling at him to stop, he did and i was able to get off with help of strangers and the person i was with. it’s terrifying when drivers decide to just not communicate when they’re doing something, especially when they drive off. this isn’t even the only time it’s happened but thankfully my power chair is far more stable than my manual one so i’m less at risk of tipping.

I made a complaint about a bus driver who rejected me because his knee was sore and he didn't want to get up. The bus company said action had been taken. 3 days later, I was alone at the bus stop. He pulled towards the stop, but didn't slow down and drove straight through a puddle then carried on. I was left alone and soaking wet waiting for the next bus.

I cannot imagine your fear on that first bus. As women we are already vulnerable, add in disability and you can feel like a complete target. I understand your fear of reporting too. I hope you can avoid him as much as possible.

ive been injured by one driver thinking that just because i was on the bus he could drive off when my chair wasnt even in the wheelchair bay fully, I ended up banging my shin on a supporting bar

also with taxis, my mum was going to do anything she had to so that we could afford a taxi to take me 5 MINUTES to get to college every day (and my wheelchair folds up and at the time i could lift it into the boot independently) and we were told multiple times that NO taxi driver in the town would take me. I ended up having to drop out of school because of this. The magical resources that we can't afford don't even exist!!

I got on a bus with my scooter for the first time last week, 1st driver was so lovely but the 2nd one tutted at me cause he had to get the ramp out, he looked the other way at first and I had to ask him to put the ramp down! He was horrible to the other passengers too, dint think I'll do it again

I find most bus drivers are nobs, one, maybe two are an exception. The other observation I’ve had is that if I’m on my own in my powerchair, reluctance to help. If my dads with me, it’s like it’s a man code, dad speaks and they they do as there told 😀

the amount of times I've had TFL drivers pull away whilst I'm sat waiting to get off is ridiculous. I've screamed at bus drivers, Ive hit the bell a million times, and still they don't seem to fucking understand I want off the bus -Claire x
