Hahahaha, therapist here and SAME, dude, same. Like why is this so fucking hard. I truly wish it was like a one and done healing and we are fine for life. Here’s the thing- you can do a shit ton of excellent work and healing but it will never eliminate the actual neural pathways that are in our brain (legit structures in the brain). They remain (sadly/frustratingly). We just learn through therapy and the work we do to heal, to not allow our brain to take those neural pathways anymore and/or how to not react when our brain does anyway. But because our nervous systems are extremely skilled and hard wired to protect us at any cost, sometimes things can trigger our brain to take that neural pathway we have worked so hard to shut down (because remember, it’s still there we just stopped using it as much). It doesn’t mean you are not healed or didn’t do the work. Just means your brain was triggered to take that neural pathway and your nervous system won in that moment and reacted (albeit incorrectly). It’s progress not perfection we strive for and it sounds like you have made a TON of progress 🙌🏼 .

I asked my therapist last week…”I’m thankful that I can now recognize my triggers, but when do they stop being my triggers?” Her response…. “Never. But eventually you’ll say, ‘I felt that, but it didn’t get to decide what happened next.’”

Therapy is wonderful and it’s also the most dreaded hour of my week. It’s exhausting.

I appreciate the vulnerability and just want to say….the work is hard, and you’re doing it, and you’ve made more progress than you know!!!!! Also healing is like a Fibonacci spiral….🌀 life keeps bringing us back to similar situations but gives our more healed version a chance to deal with it

Ive been in and out of therapy since I was 6- Im 42. Never feel bad or guilty or shameful... never ever... for needing therapy. Mentally healthy people even go to therapy. Have I needed therapy my entire life? No. But I did need it through my traumas, through my losses, and so many times because I just needed extra support moving through different seasons of my life. SOMETIMES you need therapy just to help you learn how to relax and enjoy the fact that youre not stuck in a trauma loop or life isnt beating you up constantly, because yes, it's hard sometimes getting out of the comfortable feeling we have sitting in our pain and confusion.
Go as often as you need to, and go knowing that youre on top of your game in taking care of your mental health.
Much love to you and your family. 🥰

Thanks for sharing this vulnerability and being to articulate it. I'm sure there are many men that feel this and I'm sure saying it out loud is part of the healing❤️

Hardest part for me was learning that therapy doesn’t eliminate being triggered, it eliminates being high jacked by the trigger. Sounds like you have a kick @ss therapist!

I don't know if you're ever done. It's like a garden with weeds and beautiful flowers. You have to keep tending to that garden cuz weeds are always there and will grow if you don't tend to them.

Therapy is a great place to have a safe space to look inward and resolve things yourself with ideally an unbiased guide to listen and help you along. But you are picking at wounds and it’s a double edged sword. Helpful for some, the right therapist can make or break whatever it is you’re seeking help with. Be kind to yourself, I hope everyone who feels the need to seek it out, can get the help they need. Love the vids, thanks for being real dude. Mental health struggles need more attention

You might not be HEALED, but what happened there shows 1000% a huge amount of heal-ING. Like, a lot a lot. Huge amounts of healing. [Perfect score]
