When @MAAS Creative and I went to the shelter to volunteer, we went straight to meet Rosalind in kennel 23. She is only 1 year old. For days, volunteers had been talking in the group chat about how no one had been able to take her on a walk. She was too scared and refused to leave her kennel no matter what they tried. On our way there, another volunteer told us he had carried her outside once. She still would not walk, but he said she was incredibly sweet. Everyone was heartbroken for her. When I opened her kennel and walked in, Rosalind was hiding in the back. But almost immediately, her tail wagged a few times. It felt like she wanted so badly to trust, but did not know if it was safe. We spent time with her inside the kennel and then tried leashing her. She froze. She shook. She was terrified. So i picked her up and carried her outside. That can be dangerous with fearful dogs, but even in her fear, Rosalind was gentle and loving. Outside, in a quiet space with sun and fresh air, she slowly began to relax. We cried with her, wondering what could lead a dog to this level of fear. Then, when we least expected it, she rolled over so Elena could scratch her belly. And after that, she stood up and took a few steps to eat treats. It might not seem like much, but for Rosalind, it was huge. The hardest part was bringing her back to her kennel, where she was scared all over again. This is one of the hardest parts of volunteering. I promised Rosalind she has a whole army behind her. Together, we will find her the loving family she deserves. Can you help us? … … … #sharinglove #dog #rescue #shelterdog
