But he already was in McLaren in 2023 and 2024, why would he need more than 3 years to learn to managed his tire when Kimi is in his second season and is one of the best at it ?

all true, but mclaren arent responsible for oscars development, as they signed him in a title contender seat not a "develppmental" seat like ollie bearman at haas, or what russel was in wiliams or the whole of vcarb. mclaren has been consistently been a top/ best of the rest team for the last 7 seasons, when that move happened it sas clear that he is not there to develop

I totally agree. I think he presumed he’d solved his tire management demons but it was the car all along. Nuked a huge difference between him and Lando. Lando is doing what he did back in like 21 - maximising that car but no one noticed because he was still usually not on the podium. All that time in a midfield car served him very well - he keeps saying this car is hard to drive but he can work with that.

absolutely, driving the tractor was fundamental for Lando to develop different set of skills and being able to adapt to whatever car McLaren provided, piastri got a fast car and never developed those skills

I don’t believe that is the only reason as all of his mistakes were covered up by Stella and excused so rather than learning from his late season crashes Stella just made up a reason on why it happened. I also think that papaya rules at the start of this year gave him a false sense of security on his pace because all of the races bar Japan (and Monaco when lando was still in the race) I believe he has been hindered through that as he was given priority allowing him to finish ahead because of the team not himself. For example in spa when Lando came back and caught up to him before the pit stops after having a grid drop Lando should of been given priority as Lando had the pace to get back on the podium but because Oscar saved his ers and got ahead on the kemmel straight on the pit lap he was given priority. I know no one wants to hear it but Oscar needs to be used as a second driver right now as Lando is somehow managing to challenge Kimi for the title whilst Oscar is struggling to get on the podium consistently

The first half of 2025 was the outlier. Lando has always been better than Oscar otherwise.

i completely agree! i think lando would still be beating him, but i feel like the gap between the two of them wouldn't be as drastic as it is right now with the new regs. and i think it's even more noticeable because of how great lando is when it comes to adaptability. i wonder if it's something he'll get better at soon, or if not having to adapt in such a key moment in his career will always make it more difficult for him to adapt? it'll be interesting to watch what happens with him throughout the next few years!

I think this drop is a combination of two factors. For one it’s his mistakes having been covered up and then it’s because of the new regs
