@pisgahdomes: One of our favorite hidden gems in Pisgah National Forest. The Dragon Tree. 🐉🌲 Park at the Looking Glass Rock Overlook, look for milepost 417, cross the road to the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and follow the trail for three-tenths of a mile. There she is.
Since Helene 417 is no longer visible. I have looked so many times.

I believe this tree was a Native American marker for a trail. They would bend small trees to set markers and let them grow. So cool how this one grew

My husband proposed to me with a scavenger hunt with clues that sent me to different areas of Balsam Grove and the Parkway that we hiked together or liked to visit together. One of my clues was hidden here. It ended at Mount Pisgah Picnic area where my family did picnics when I was a kid and where we picnic and hang my hammock to get away from life. He had a whole spread of food set up🩷

Nothing but a tree that knocked down when it was small and that deformed the tree. Going west on the parkway it is on the left at the big pullout looking into Brevard

there are trees like this in Beaufort county nc on the trails around cotton mouth creekbed. Native indians tied them down to mark pathways and they grew to look similiar to this

Beautiful trail and waterfall. But it’s a more difficult trail than it used to be after those storms that were endured in the last year or two.

Looks like a treasure trail tree marker when they point straight down to the ground they’re pointing at something buried there😉
