I used to think being “responsible” meant choosing the path that looked safest on paper, even when it was draining me in real life. I did everything I was told and somehow I was STILL living paycheck to paycheck, paying for childcare so I could work, and missing time with my babies I could never get back. I remember praying, “God, there HAS to be another way.” But eventually I realized I couldn’t keep praying for a different life while refusing to do anything differently. So I learned new skills. I started scared, got uncomfortable, I did the work and I trusted God with the outcome. Now it’s September 12th… I’m home with my babies, my nursing degree is sitting unused, and I’ve already made over 10k this month. But because the path you were taught was “responsible” isn’t the only path available to you. Sometimes God answers the prayer by giving you the wisdom and courage to move differently. I’ll always be grateful for nursing. But I’m even more grateful I stopped believing it had to be my only option.
