Mia is a nine-year-old boxer who was dumped by her owner just two days before Christmas. I don’t know how anyone justifies walking away from a dog who gave them her entire life. But a senior dog… during Christmas? That one broke me. I’ve lost so much faith in humanity over the last few years, and stories like Mia’s are exactly why. This is the video I took of Mia just minutes before I left the shelter, and she is absolutely breaking my heart. When I saw her, she wouldn’t even get up for treats. She did take them — slowly — but her body just didn’t have the strength or will anymore. She’s fragile. She’s tired. And she is clearly grieving the only life she’s ever known. Knowing that her owners didn’t care enough to protect her — that they dropped her off at a shelter after everything she gave them — makes this hurt even more. This sweet old lady does not belong in a shelter. She belongs on a soft bed, somewhere warm, with someone who will love her for whatever time she has left.
