Mornings are still the hardest. 💔 Darcie has always struggled with acid reflux, which is common with EB, but recently it seems to have become worse. We don’t know if it’s just a rough patch or something more, but she’s been sleeping much more and we’ve noticed she’s lost her beautiful smile. For someone with EB, the lining of the oesophagus is incredibly fragile, so every episode of reflux can burn and damage the tissue, causing painful blistering, inflammation and scarring. If the acid reaches her throat while she’s sleeping, it can also irritate the fragile tissues around her airway, making everything even more uncomfortable. It’s heartbreaking because, if you know Darcie, you’ll know she’s always been such a happy little girl, no matter how much pain she’s in. Even on the hardest days, we hold onto the little moments—the tiny smiles, the sparkle in her eyes, and the glimpses of our happy girl.
