@abc13houston: A paragliding instructor got an unexpected front-row seat as a huge dust devil whipped up in Southern California in early September. Jessi Laird captured video of the dust devil in Perris on September 4. Laird told Storyful that she and a few friends were doing training jumps for the Wing Suit Acrobatic Nationals. She said they could feel the air becoming turbulent as they came in to land with their parachutes. A few moments later, she saw, what she described as, a “massive” dust devil kick up near the grass landing area. “I felt thankful that I was on the ground,” Laird said. “Big dust devils in the landing area are a major hazard and I’ve had friends who have been injured or even died from their parachute collapsing in a dust devil.
