Do you always knit through the front post and purl through the back? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that. Unless the pattern specifically calls for, I knit/purl through the front post. Is this done for this cast on style, or do you always knit/purl like that?

beautiful! I used that with my current project. I chose a crochet hook a full size larger than the knitting needles, that helped. also picking up the cast-on stitches while unravelling the waste yarn nakes it easier. 😁
