@profahmedhankir: What’s It Really Like Living With Bipolar Disorder? Imagine sitting in a small boat in the middle of the ocean. In one hand, you’re holding the strings of balloons pulling you towards the sky. In the other, the chain of an anchor pulling you towards the depths. For many people living with bipolar disorder, stability can feel like a constant balancing act. Sometimes stability isn’t passive. Sometimes stability is an achievement. #BipolarDisorder #MentalHealth #BipolarAwareness #Psychiatry #MentalHealthAwareness

I have bipolar 2 and the way ive explained it is that its like sitting and looking at the sky off in the distance. you see dark clouds. you know they are coming. so you run the other way. but you cant get away from it. so you sit there and watch it come and cover you. theres nothing you can do to stop it. I dont know when the hypo manic comes until ive done everything already and realize I should be exhausted.

This is so powerful. Medication and therapy doesn’t take those balloons or the anchor away it just gives you better grip and more energy to hold them.

I have bipolar type 1 and my husband and I learned my early warning signs for manic episodes. To stay out of the manic depressive episodes I got a physically demanding job and stay on a schedule. I've been level for a year with no meds.

Can ADHD be confused with bipolar disorder? I think I have either both or just ADHD.

Great analogy. Bipolar 1. Lithium. Therapy. No weed. No alcohol. Living a balanced life now. (But it did take a long time to achieve stability).

I live with bipolar 1…. I think the hardest thing, regardless of the ups and downs is maintaining any kind of relationships, I feel so lonely, no one understands what it’s like, and also I know I’ve hurt so many people along the way

I hate to say it, but for anyone out there with bipolar do not drink or smoke weed. Speaking from experience, it makes it so much worse. Take your meds and keep going to therapy. It’s hard but it will get better.

It’s great when I need creativity and drive… when I’m going well. But awful when I need energy and drive and I’ve got nothing to give.

that's an incredible metaphor. I think what people also need to understand as well that oftentimes people have other things going on too. For example BPD, ADHD, Autism, etc. For me, I have all 3 so even if my bi polar is stable, I'm still battling. it's a neverending war!!
