@jaqs.nelson: How we split finances in our relationship 💸🏡 I’ve never really understood splitting everything 50/50 when two people earn very different amounts. I earn more than my girlfriend, so for us it makes more sense to split things proportionally rather than straight down the middle. I cover the mortgage and most of the household bills, while she contributes around £500, covers the groceries and we split other things like dates, holidays and random expenses between us. And I don’t think contribution is purely financial either. There are plenty of things she does around the house that I probably wouldn’t 😂 There’s obviously no perfect formula for every couple. For me, it’s about finding a setup where both people feel like they’re contributing fairly without one person being financially stretched just to say everything is “50/50”. How do you plan on splitting the pregnancy? Postpartum?

Why would you split bills with someone you out earn 5x.

Damn making 5 times more than her and still making her pay while she also does all of the chores doesn’t sit right with me but if that works for her, thats fine

food shop + £500 is quite expensive so im not sure this is even proportional when shes also doing the physical labour😂😭

If you are both paying a proportionate amount, then you both are contributing ‘equally’ imo. Do you and your partner work similar hours? If so, doing all of the cooking and most of the cleaning on top just seems rather unfair…

Ideally the man should cover all the bills but realistically whoever earns the most should pay more 😁

Splitting proportionately is still 50/50

I think you should cover the £500 she pays towards the mortgage. She can only cover the groceries since she’s already taking more of cleaning and house chores. 😩

I really don’t have issues splitting bills . I’ve noticed the issue is in splitting household cost and child care if there’s any . That’s where many couples fight . Splitting bills 50/50 is easy but how to split household cost ?

Input no one requested, but I’d say for the sake of her credit score she could pay at least one bill so her score keeps going up /stays on a good rate
