All I want for my kids when I get to that point is help finding a nice place has activities I can do with people my own age. I love my children and grandchildren, but visits are enough. Beyond that, they owe me nothing. I didn’t raise them to be my caretaker, I raised them to be their own people. they take care of me enough just by being part of my life.

But nursinghomes are actually nice. I saw plenty of old people being "taken care of" by kids and they were sidelined and always yelled at that they are in the way. In the home they have friends, care, food, everything.

Another Gen X ( actually only a couple of years short of Boomer.....shudder) No contact for thirty years due to psychological and emotional and ( before I got taller than her) physical abuse. I wrote off any thoughts of any inheritance decades ago.

My mom has told us to stick her and our dad in a nice home and she’ll be happy. Honestly, my brother and I will probably argue who is going to take them in during their twilight years!

being a caregiver is a fulltime job nobody who may also has kids or a wife/husband wants to come home from work (if they can even maintain their job most people cant) & take care of their elderly parent. esp if the parent lacks mobility its such a physical demanding job most apartments or houses arent made for their support needs. in nursing homes they got care 24/7 & meet people their ages the only issue is abusive staff.

I had a great mom, and I still won't be moving her in with me when she is older. Because part of her being a great mom is telling me that she will NEVER burden me like that, and she planned for her old age well.

My parents smacked me around when I was a kid all the way till mid twenties (then I left) I cannot imagine them having dementia and smacking me around when I’m 30+ now. Absolutely not
