When I was in the Military at that time a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bathroom apartment in Hampton VA was around 800-900 for a higher end apartment complex.

I lived in a 2bedroom 1 bathroom duplex just outside of Pittsburgh in 2010 I paid $650. I lived in a 2br 1ba apt a few years later for $695 with amenities........I just looked up my old complex and now 2br 1b $1695 and up!

In 2009 you could find apartments in my area for 300-400 a month. $175 in 1997 is not outlandish. My first apartment in 2009/2010 was less than 600 a month and that was because it was in a decent area and was 2 beds.

My grandmother rented a 1 bedroom apartment from about 2002 to 2022. Because she lived there for so long, the landlord never raised her original rent of $400. It was not section 8 or an elderly apartment

you can find some CHEAP! spots for the rent in philly(not sure about Pittsburgh thou). but even a room for rent could be like 500-600$ with everything included

My first 2br apartment in the capital city in 2017 was $675. My last 2br apartment in a comparable city just slightly bigger was $1800. Both had nothing included no dishwasher no laundry. Less than 10 years. It almost tripled in price
