I have BRUTAL adhd and I’ve taught myself piano since I was little. I only started learning how to sight read last year because of my music classes and choir. These were ALWAYS my favorite way to make piano covers!!

I just turned 30 and I feel like im too old and busy to start learning piano. ive always wanted to and I am adhd as FUCK so even what you just explained makes great sense to me compared to a lot of more mainstream techniques!

Love this! This is how I play - in combination with sheet music - but I’ve always been an improvisor and since I learned chords as a kid it expanded my whole style of playing. And yes, I have ADHD, and never thought of the connection before

Omg I got diagnosed with adhd at 21yrs old NO WONDER I begged my mom to let me quit piano as a kid after 10 yrs of lessons bc I HATED sight reading but now I loveee playing by ear and improvising with lead sheets!!!

YES. I grew up taking piano lessons from age 5. After learning the fundamentals, sight reading, etc., I started playing pop music. Then, once I learned guitar chords and could hear major chord progression patterns, I could “play” anything by ear - and write my own songs!

My adhd kids are in a kids music program called Let’s play Music. It teaches them chords,solfège, harmonies, pattern recognition and they have been THRIVING!
