Zayne :
I can navigate life on my own, make financial decisions on my own, endure difficult seasons alone, and I am perfectly capable of being alone. But as I mature, I no longer see love as merely a feeling. Love is a choice.
To me, real love requires accountability, emotional regulation, integrity, sacrifice and growth. I would never blame my own inability to manage myself as a reason to keep love out of my life. If anything, love can expose the parts of us that still need to mature and guide us toward becoming better individuals.
So no, I would not marry simply for status, convenience, financial security or because it fits society’s idea of what a successful life should look like. That, to me, would be far more dishonest.
Marriage may be a legal contract, and as a lawyer you may naturally view it through the lens of risk, rights and obligations. But human beings do not experience life purely through contracts.
I would rather choose love consciously, with my eyes open, while accepting the responsibilities and risks that come with it, than build a relationship around fear of what might happen.
Truth matters to me more than appearances. Integrity matters more than conformity. Man-made laws regulate relationships, but they do not define the entirety of what a relationship means.
Marry after 35 because let’s be frank, upbringing matters and we have too many child like adults. May life experiences shape them before they break others that are capable of marriage.
