With back to school time and the rush to get the kids out the door in the morning, lots of people have been asking me about breakfast cereals! Let’s face it cereals are extremely handy in the morning when everyone’s in a rush to get ready for school/work! Now unfortunately most of them are packed with sugar which is just not a great way to start the day. How we want our kids to start the day is just like us - we want them to start with steady blood sugar levels, we don’t want them to be having sugar crashes mid morning while they’re in school! And the way to do that is to give them a breakfast with fibre and protein which will keep them satiated and not have those energy crashes! When it comes to cereal - firstly we need to remember to not be taken in by the health claims on the front of the box! They always write things like “50% of your daily vitamin D needs” on Frosties 🤦‍♀️ or “source of Fibre” on coco pops 🤦‍♀️ but when you actually look at the label, most of them are packed with sugar and barely contain any fibre at all. So the main thing to look for on the back of the pack are ones that are low in sugar and have a good amount of fibre! (The milk will add some protein!) Two of the best options are Shredded Wheat and Weetabix (remember to go for the supermarket own-brand version which is almost identical but much much cheaper!). They’re high in fibre, very low in sugar, and serve with some fruit to make them tastier and which will also add more fibre and micronutrients. Was this helpful? Let me know in the comments 👇❤️ #sophiesswaps #cleverswaps
