Share/Repost this! PART 1 - Because saying it’s just PMS is a lie!!! If your mood changes feel dramatically different (I’m talking losing friends, arguments with your partner, lashing out at people, feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depression, on edge etc) the week or two before your period but then improve a few days after your period starts (or even right when it starts) … it could be Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). PMDD is not “just bad PMS.” It’s a hormone-sensitive mood disorder that can significantly affect your mental health, relationships, work, and daily life. Common PMDD symptoms include: • Intense mood swings • Depression or feelings of hopelessness • Anxiety or panic attacks • Irritability or anger • Feeling overwhelmed • Difficulty concentrating • Fatigue • Sleep changes • Appetite changes or cravings • Physical symptoms like bloating, headaches, or breast tenderness The timing is what makes PMDD unique and what makes it different than just PMS. Symptoms typically: 🩸Begin 1–2 weeks before your period (during the luteal phase) 🩸Peak in the days leading up to your period 🩸Improve within a few days after your period starts 🩸Are minimal or absent during the rest of the menstrual cycle If this pattern sounds familiar, know that you’re not imagining it, and you’re definitely not alone. PMDD is a real, diagnosable medical condition and it deserves evidence-based treatment and support! In my next video (PART 2), I’ll cover the treatment options that can make a huge difference and what I’ve been seeing in clinic. Y’all know I always try to cram it into 1 video but I was a bit too chatty in this one LOL!!! Have you ever heard of PMDD before? Do you have PMDD? Are you treating it as a clinician? Let me know in the comments!!! #PMDD #PremenstrualDysphoricDisorder #NursePractitioner #OBGYN #womenshealth Disclaimer: Please allow my videos to serve as medical education so that you can be better prepared to talk to your healthcare provider, not medical advice.
