I mean, CAN bus really isn’t that hard once you understand how it works. When I diagnose CAN systems, I check the network resistance and watch which modules wake up and start communicating. If a module that should be communicating isn’t, I can follow the network and narrow down where the problem is. Once you understand the theory and normal network behavior, CAN bus is pretty straightforward to diagnose.

apprentice here, watched my coworker spend days on a BRAND NEW vehicle that would randomly die intermittently. when it would die, all the electrical stuff would flash and act weird. after one final check of everything we found a small rip in the engine air filter and a new one fixed it 😭

I loved cars and computers since i was a kid. I left high school, became an ASE master tech with L1 engine performance. around 2004 I left automotive for IT. today I'm a senior systems engineer. what year are my cars? 1995, 1999, and 2002. those years are peak automotive. I don't need my door switches to have a network connection to a body control module to roll down a goddamn window.
