It's learned helplessness and it's annoying as hell to try and argue with people who've convinced themselves they're unable to improve themselves.

I feel like that mindset can lead to the infantilization of neurodivergent people sometimes too

also, it's not like neurotypical people don't have to work on communication skills, on self-improvement, on reflecting and adjusting how they relate to other people.

Do I get overstimulated in crowds? Yes. But realistically I cannot avoid being in public forever. So, I purchased noise canceling headphones in order to find a solution. Would I rather sit in my room all day and not deal with a crowd? Yes. But that’s not realistic! I’m a grown woman I have to go out in the world!

This feels like an extension of the "reason vs excuse" discourse Like yes, our autism is the reason this is harder for us, but using it to uncritically dismiss feedback or criticism makes it an excuse

With a lot of people disagreeing with you (from what I've seen) I've noticed that their points are under the assumption that the person ostarsizing the one with autism is coming from bad faith and even a source of abelism. Which with autism even if you are not rude and are nice to people, being too excitable or other symptoms like that can cause certain neuridivergents to isolate you. The diffence on your side is that its under the context that the person with autism is causing their own isolation by being unintentionally rude to other due to missed social cues and the person isolating is putting up boundaries for themselves and not out of abelism. Which under your context it is understandable to expect a high functioning autistic to try their best to develop their social skills if they want to avoid being isolated and surviving the society we live in today. (Disclaimer: This is based of of my fyp. There could be many other sides to this that I haven't seen. )

Idk if I’m autistic or not but I remember a time not being very lied due to my social skills so now I pay attention to social cues and body language and it has helped me a lot in figuring out how people are feeling about me or what’s happening in the moment ! The down part is I’m always mentally exhausted 😭😭

And that’s why I don’t relate to a lot of AuDHD videos on TT….They act like both things are death sentences. Everything can be learned if you try.

I knewwww this is what you meant but I was just "making up narratives" omfg. like socialization is a skill autistic or not and there is an obligation to learn to be kind to people autistic or not.

I have a problem with my tone. People always think I’m arguing when I am just trying to add to the conversation. I started just saying that out loud. “Sorry I’m not mad or anything just passionate”

it's very frustrating to listen to some autistic people behave as if they are the only ND folks on the planet or that everyone they come into conflict with is NT.

it bothers me because they always say "I can't do this, I'm autistic/adhd" especially if you are high functioning, it makes it harder, not impossible
