@missbeckyleigh: It’s been a long time since I posted a lot about anything having to do with religion or politics. Mostly because I work hard to maintain my mental health and both issues in the last few years have just been a LOT. This is an excerpt from the interview that our current president got the FCC to threaten Jimmy Kimmel over if it was aired on television. This is the message he didn’t want you to hear. The funniest part of it is I would have never tried to watch it had I not been told not to, but nothing gets me going quite like a challenge. And this is why I cannot take anyone seriously as a Christian who claims to support the actions of our current administration. My elementary education through most of high school was through Catholic schools. I went to college at a Bible college. I have spent more time reading the Bible and the actual words Jesus spoke than the average church goer. I remember when everyone was running around wearing the WWJD bracelets. James Talarico spelled it out clearly here. Jesus wouldn’t be ok with the things our government is participating in today. And the most disturbing part of it to me that a lot of the actions were suggested by an organization that claims to use a Christian-influenced philosophy as an approach to government. In Matthew 24: 23-24, Jesus actually said, “23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” As we approach the midterm elections, there has never been a time in my life so far that I felt voting was a more crucial civic duty. In the last few elections I have participated in, I voted exclusively third party. I was a registered Republican until 2016. I felt like the party betrayed me when they nominated him. Because even 10 years ago, I could see who he was. This election, I will be voting for the candidates that have the best possible shot at removing any Republican from office. I do not care what party that means I end up having to vote for is. And that’s if it even ends up mattering because they’ve already made statements about cheating the elections anyway. As a follower of Christ, it is my duty to feed the hungry, heal the sick, protect the weak, shelter the poor, be kind to foreigners, and love my neighbor. As an American, it is my duty to protect the freedoms of my fellow countrymen with the most effective means I have to do so, which is my vote. #FuckTrump
