@jpsmyth35: There are many types of therapy and while all of them can be effective, you don’t actually have to rehash all of the things that have happened in your life for you to heal. I have tried many different types of therapy, including CBT, EMDR and brain spotting, and while, I think CBT was helpful in figuring out how and what I was thinking. It wasn’t terribly effective at teaching me the skills I needed to feel better. EMDR also wasn’t a great fit for me. so if the only kind of therapy you’ve ever tried is sitting on the couch and telling someone all of the horrible things that have happened to you and you didn’t find it all that effective, I would encourage you to research what kind of therapy is available before deciding that it’s not for you 🫶🏻🥰

The most successful parts of therapy, for me, have been when I've had tonwrote letters to people in my life. I never send them but I have the freedom to say what I really want and often the message that I thought would come forward, comes out as something else and I learn so much about myself and the situation that went down. I also really enjoy asking my therapist questions about different scenarios or situations and getting her take/perspective. I always find I'm able to get to the root of an issue faster by asking the deep questions and having the conversation with her about it.

Agreed. In fact talk therapy and CBT never worked for me (well… they had some benefit but it was limited). Somatic approaches worked great for me!
