Masih Hindustan Mein (Jesus in India) was written in Urdu by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835–1908), the Promised Messiah and Mahdi, in April 1899. Its general publication occurred on 20 November 1908 in Qadian, India. Initially, the author had intended to write ten chapters and a conclusion, but later decided that the four chapters would suffice. The main thesis of the book, that the enemies of Jesus, peace be on him, had failed to bring about his death on the cross is forcefully established on the basis of evidence contained in the New Testament as well as historical and ancient medical records. The book makes the case that not only had Jesus survived the ordeal of the cross but that, after meeting, dining and spending a night with his disciples he had travelled in search of the ‘lost sheep of the House of Israel’. Finding them settled in Afghanistan and Kashmir, India he conveyed his message to them and they accepted him—just like the people of Jonas, peace be on him. This was all in complete fulfilment of the prophecy that Jesus himself had made prior to the events of the cross when he had stated, as recorded in the New Testament: ‘An evil and adulterous genera- tion seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.’ (Matthew 12:39–40) In the present third edition, efforts have been made to make the translation closer to the original text. Formatting and layout of the book has been substantially improved. Footnotes, Glossary and Index have been updated as well. Further, the Appendix has been improved in support of the references quoted in the book. We are grateful to all those who have contributed towards the book, namely, Waseem Ahmad Sayed, Bushra Shahid, Qadir Malik, Rizwan Ahmad, Abdul Wahab Mirza, and others. May Allah the Almighty bless them abundantly. I sincerely hope and pray that this book will be a source of enlightenment for all readers.
