AOL lost out because it refused to adapt to high speed access. they tried to keep the 23.95 a month subscription on top of the 60 bucks a month for time warner cable. allowing people to access the internet around the AOL interface screwed them because why pay for AOL when you could just get around to child protections by using internet explorer. I worked there is the Saves dept so I know first hand what and why people called to cancel for. They should have made the time warner cable box only accessible by AOL interface and charged a flat rate.
