@thehvacgame: Should you stay or should you go? One of the first things you might think is that you always have to switch companies in order to learn. But, I was with my first company for over 10 years before moving to Texas and changing companies. I went to training classes. Had mentors. I learned everything there. And I grew with the company. It wasn’t easy and I had to request training, research my own classes, and go out of my way to keep learning. But, I became the go-to guy. The one everybody called at that place. But, at some point I stopped challenging myself and coasted along. I stayed with my second company for almost three years. It was similar. I started at the bottom. Had to learn the team. The structure. The procedures. There, too, I had to research my own classes and propose training. Took three years but I became the go-to guy again. But, now I moved again. The main reason was personal growth. I knew the customers, I knew the equipment, I stopped challenging myself. But, it’s tough. At my last two places I was the go-to guy. Now, I’m the new guy. I have to build up trust, find new mentors, co-workers i can relate to, etc. Sometimes growth requires you to move, but many times growth can come from staying with the same company and growing with that company. I’d definitely encourage you to first stick with your company and grow into your full potential with that company. Learn as much as you can. Grow with the company. But yes, if there are reason for switching and you need to be uncomfortable to grow, look for a new place and keep learning.
